We at Bentley Price Associates are going through this uncertain time along with you.
This has been an extremely stressful period for so many, especially for those of us in the hospitality and gaming industries. I’m doing my best to stay in touch with people and keep up with the latest information on what is happening in our industry around the country and beyond.
Hiring and Staffing Outlook
I believe things are already starting to look up. Some areas of the country are staging soft openings, and others have the potential for gradual openings in the days and weeks to come.
Of course, the rate of reopening is dependent on the scientific criteria and decisions of each state’s governor. Here in California, we’ve been on lockdown since mid-March, and while the governor has said local and county conditions will be considered, it is anticipated that most hotels and casinos may not reopen until mid-summer, at the earliest.
We Will Prevail and Adapt
This July marks the 44th year that Bentley Price Associates has provided executive search and management consulting on a worldwide basis. I’ve seen many ups and downs in the industry over 44 years, but nothing compares with this pandemic. As fast-paced as the world has been, it’s come to a complete halt for the first time in my lifetime.
We will prevail; however, things are going to be very different.
What those hard times have taught me is that we adapt. No industry is better at changing with the times than hospitality and gaming. As an industry, we are innovators.
Hotels and casinos won’t be opening the doors to a flood of guests waiting to rush in; it will be gradual and social distancing will likely stay in effect for some time. Masks and gloves may be something with which we should become accustomed, along with stringent sanitization guidelines. Temperature checks, for employees and customers, could be the new normal. Buffets and salad bars may be a thing of the past. Video conferencing has definitely put a dent in meetings and conventions—for the time being.
Nonetheless, we will all make it through this, and will most likely be a little more humble as we move forward.
Thinking of Our Friends and Associates
My heart goes out to those who have lost friends and relatives to the virus, and to everyone enduring hard times due to the shutdown. I, and the Bentley Price Associates team wish you and yours the very best, and look forward to working with you all again soon.
