Overview The Director of Technical Accounting provides leadership and technical guidance of accounting policy development and financial reporting with in assigned functional area(s). The individual in this role is responsible for all oral and written communication with senior leadership, external auditors, and staff for technical accounting, accounting policy, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) policy related matters. As the subject matter expert on all technical accounting topics, the Director is responsible for research, documentation, and implementation of FASB pronouncements, GAAP, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) developments that impact Company at both the parent and divisional segment levels.
Responsibilities
  • Lead technical accounting research, prepare technical accounting memos and communicate technical accounting conclusions
  • Provide interpretation of new IFRS/GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and SOX developments and their effect on the business
  • Monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide USGAAP interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Implement disclosure modifications and enhancements as necessary and ensure clear and concise written documentation of accountin gconclusions and accounting policie sand procedures
  • Monitor, review, interpret and develop diverse policies to ensure the assigned functional area(s) operate in compliance with GAAP, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other regulatory requirements and associated adjacencies with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX404)
  • Participate in quarterly close processes where necessary to opine on technical accounting related judgement, discussion, and conclusions
  • Communicate and explain accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to the senior management in a clear and concise manner

Qualifications Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related area
  • Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant required
  • At least 7 years related experience including a minimum of 3-5 years of prior “Big4” public accounting experience with exposure to SOX, SEC reporting, and researching and interpreting
  • U.S. GAAP and SEC Reporting Rules
  • Clear thinking/problem solving with ability to drive implementation of required accounting, SEC, and SOX policies and procedures
  • Detai loriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with experience communicating at an executive level, across functions and regions with diplomacy and tact
  • Must be able to work independently under minimal supervision, and alternately work cohesively within a team environment

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Prior experience designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures—in a SOX environment
  • Advanced technical accounting knowledge coupled with exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Combination of private industry and public accountinge xperience
  • Adaptable/flexible: being open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work inambiguous situations
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Maintain a positive, results oriented work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to train and educate others
  • Experience with the following systems is preferred: MAS500 and Biznet
