Overview A critical leadership role directly responsible for managing the preparation and providing the final review of all Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) filings, including but not limited to 10-Qs, 10-K, and8-K’s as required, and coordination with the Company’s legal team for all financial disclosure footnotes, and any Proxy Statements, audited financial statements or other miscellaneous SEC filings. Additionally, the SEC Reporting Leader will build out and provide management oversight of his/her team for all related SEC reporting activities and support of the Company.
Responsibilities
  • Provides support in analysis, research, monitoring and other accounting functions related to SEC reporting requirements
  • Partners with technical accounting to monitor and ensure compliance with evolving accounting guidance and standards
  • Ensures compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX 404) by maintaining effective internal controls over financial/SEC-related reporting and by complying with written policies and procedures
  • Participates in quarterly close processes to ensure proper financial reporting and disclosures in public filings
  • Leads the update of financials and leads ownership of all footnote preparation and filing using underlying systems and SEC reporting tools
  • Assists with developing processes, design, and documentation of schedules and templates supporting collection and reporting of SEC reporting disclosures
  • Prepares accurate supporting documentation for internal and external parties
  • Assists with researching, interpreting and implementing the appropriate disclosures for changes in business activities and authoritative guidance (GAAP and SEC Reporting Rules).
  • Implements disclosure modifications and enhancements as necessary
  • Manages and provides oversight of SEC financial reporting team
Qualifications Minimum:

  • Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant required
  • At least 10 years of experience preparing or auditing financial statements and disclosures
  • At least 5 years of experience researching accounting and reporting issues, including interpreting S.GAAP and SEC ReportingRules
  • Demonstrated proficiency in S.GAAP and authoritative literature
  • Very strong analytic skills with ability to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers
  • Clear thinking/problem solving with ability to lead cross-functional projects/process improvement within finance function involving process improvement/simplification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience communicating at an executive level, across functions and regions
  • Able to clearly communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand manner; able to deliver messages effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication, be comfortable with ambiguous situations, and demonstrated prior experience building a SEC reporting cross-functional team

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience evaluating compliance with SOX
  • Auditing experience from a large national or regional CPA firm
  • SEC Reporting experience in either an audit role within a CPA firm or acorporate external reporting role
  • Combination of private industry and public accounting experience
  • Confidence/Assertiveness: strong influencing skills across business functions; confidence to approach business leaders with difficult messages and defend position; for example, work closely with business leaders to achieve business objectives while driving controllership/GE Values
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment and succeed in a matrix environment
  • Adaptable/flexible: being open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
  • Strong Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values indecisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Experience with XBRL tagging
  • Experience with the following systems is preferred: MAS500 and Biznet
