OVERVIEW
The Executive Director of Purchasing for North America directs the procurement and purchasing operations and strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing. Evaluates and develops strategic supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and implements systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain. Designs processes and systems and utilizes technical tools to analyze data and increase responsiveness to material demands. Additionally, the Executive Director of purchasing incorporates auditing processes to ensure procurement and recordkeeping comply with any applicable industry or governmental regulations. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight of day-to-day purchasing operations.
  • Cost savings initiatives while maintaining quality and service levels.
  • Approve purchase orders/variances upon review, ensuring that buyers have conducted proper due diligence.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and developing employees to further their advancement.
  • Responsible for the purchasing team’s adequate communication with vendors and ordering departments to ensure all parties are properly informed of the status of orders and of any changes needed to complete delivery.
  • Develop department policies and procedures to increase efficiency within purchasing and other departments.
  • Communicate all critical issues to senior management and all information/directives from senior management to the purchasing team.
  • Responsible for all financial reporting to senior management.
  • Review all purchasing-related contracts with the legal department.
  • Negotiate and monitor all global shipping strategies.
  • Study and research the global commodity markets to create foresight for potential price increases.
  • Travel and attend domestic and international trade shows to establish producer relationships for potential bulk buy opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Uphold company core values and compliance guidelines
  • 5+ years of managerial experience in purchasing or a related department
  • Extensive knowledge of purchasing software and applications including Microsoft Office applications and BirchStreet.
